Justice Mitchell, 2022

My mom put me in Excellent Girls Club because she wanted me to find friends after moving here from Florida. I didn’t want to go because I don’t like talking to new people, but I went anyway because it gave me something to do afterschool.

I like being in the different sessions because I like the advice the oldest girls gave to the younger girls. Some of my favorite sessions were: social media, are you a good friend, and mental health. I really enjoyed the father/daughter session because even though he was away on base, he took the time to tune in. The session that motivated me the most was the business class, and I can stand here today to say that I have my own business. I have 5 M&M vending machines.

I thought Excellent Girls Club was going to be all talking sessions, but I was surprised that we had outings. I was excited about the trip to Baltimore because I learned about black history. I didn’t realize that kids my age was affected by injustice. Emmitt Till was only 12 and Ruby Bridges was 8 and they went through a lot for me to stand here today. Even though I’m no where near college age, I like Morgan State because it gives me something to look forward too. Also, I like the colors blue and orange because it reminded me of the Chicago Bears……..GO BEARS!!!!!! The last event I attended was the Autism run for kids. This event showed me that all kids are the same. Kids just want to be kids. All kids are special and it’s ok to be different.

Overall, I’m glad my mom made me come to Excellent Girls Club, I’ve learned a lot and a better person because of it. I can’t wait to come back next year.
