During my time in Excellence Girls' Club, I was able to find my own individual voice. In high school, I was so wrapped in being within my own friend circle it was hard for me to hear what I wanted. Excellence Girls' Club, the sponsors, and Mrs. Madison showed me the strength in listening to my own inner voice and trust in myself as I grew into the woman I am today.
The meetings I was able to build a better relationship with my mom, who even in high school was my best friend. The encouragement from members, sponsors and Mrs. Madison pushed me to pursue my education and go to college. In that time I was able to use all the skills and lessons I learned in the meetings with EGC to push myself to be the most successful I would be and to attempt things I did not believe were possible prior to being a member. EGC gave me the power to live in my most powerful truth and comfort in who I am unapologetically.
After settling in my career and learning a few more lessons, when I received the call from Mrs. Madison to serve as a sponsor I of course agreed with no hesitation. Being a sponsor with EGC has been a great way to pay respect to Mrs. Madison and the sponsors who took time to pour into me. The wonderful young ladies I have had time to be around have made me rethink many things I thought I knew about myself as an adult and have given me so many great laughs and stories.
Being an only child the members both while I was in high school and as a sponsor now has given me many sisters, so I know I will never be alone. There are only few that share this same path, but we are greater for taking this ride with EGC.
