My journey with Excellence Girls Club began over 15 years ago. I have realized over the years that God has always put a mother figure in my life, to inspire, guide and direct me during my transitional and difficult seasons. In elementary school it was Ms. Ames, Middle school it was Ms. Mitchell and in high school it was none other than Mrs. Madison. I met Mrs. Madison by being called out of my English class, about 2 months into my 9th grade year at WOHS, and told to go to her office.

I had no idea, that God had set this woman and EGC in my path to be the answer to my long, tear filled prayers. EGC taught me how to trust other girls and to trust myself. It taught me the value of ladies coming together, uplifting and inspiring one other to greatness and how incredibly powerful we can be when we do such things.

I loved the weekly meetings, community outreach, college visits and especially the yearly retreat. However, my favorite aspect of this sisterhood was the candid visits in Mrs. Madisons office. This was a safe place for all of her girls. A place where we were met with a genuine smile that we could take with us for the rest of the day. A place where we laughed, listened sometimes cried but most of all grew as women. EGC was not just a club that met after school, it was a growing sisterhood, made up of all different, all unique and all valuable girls with one goal, to grow us into not just women but ladies of integrity.

I will forever be grateful for the amazing journey I experienced in this organization and I will forever draw from the many lessons learned there. The way God has used Mrs. Madison and the amazing organization she built, to not only better my life but the lives of thousands of other girls, is without measure. I am honored to be an alumni of Excellence Girls Club.
